Below are the planning documents as they are at the moment for the networking stream
Student handouts:
(only available to Trainees and TGSS students)
(only available to Trainees)
to be used as pathway to Diploma only,
As you can see there are some minor changes to the original plan and with the restructuring of BJIT and the impact of S4A we need to re-look at this in preparation.
It was suggested to rename 6NWS to 6DIS to avoid confusion with other subject. Comments below please.
ICA11 now has a second release and while there aren't many changes there are some that will make slight differences to what we teach and what we choose to teach. Of immediate importance is the change to the Advanced Diploma of Network Security.
Old packaging rule:
Total number of units = 12
5 core units plus
7 elective units
The elective units consist of:

Simply put the last iteration I sent out and put on the Wiki does not comply with the packaging rules. I have subsequently had discussions with other people and would like to propose the following for the advanced Diploma:
The 6NWS subject closely aligns to the 6NWP subject at TTG. Sustainability competency removed to make new subject and neater fit for ADCST.
Attached is a spreadsheet with an outline of subjects for C3, C4, Diploma and AD in the network stream. It is basically a rework of the discussion paper I posted on the wiki site.
Everyone i have spoken to basically agrees with the format of the C3 and C4 but bundlings for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma have now been included.
The Diploma and AD wont be implemented to Semester 2 as we teach out students, but we are obligated to give students joining us an indication of their pathway.
Please comment urgently as this needs to be done now. People have not been forthcoming with ideas or counter proposals.
Points to consider:
New subject 3WNF - Windows netwrok fundamentals to replace first semester of CISCO.
CISCO Switching and routing taught C4 and Term 1 of Diploma. This will allow students opportunity for CCENT exam and commence CISCO Security.
There is an opportunity for students to choose an elective. This can be campus specific and allows us the flexibility to include new skills as they become available.
Students can elect to do a CCNA pathway or they can pick other subjects.
The AD is designed to be completely stand alone. If you have a CCNA, CISCO experience or good Industry skills you can complete the AD. We have had to take into account competencies used in the ADCST and so bundlings have changed. I would like some advise on how 6NPS, 6NSS and 6SUS could be taught and with what technologies.
Also what competency is a best fit for the new CISCO 4.
Please review and comment quickly.
As we enter a 'new' era in TAFE there are many issues and challenges we will have to face. In the Network stream of Information Technology we probably face more challenges than some of the other streams simply because a) the numbers of students we have b) the fact that other than the entry level subjects it is the most taught subjects.
This is suppossed to be a discussion site where we can share ideas and thoughts openly and transparently. To start things off and in no particular order or too much thought:
So where to next?.....
I hope to post as much information about what we teach at what sites across the state so we can have an informed discussion, You are encouraged to participate.and join the discussion.

Welcome to the discussion about TAFESA Network Subjects
As we enter a 'new' era in TAFE there are many issues and challenges we will have to face. In the Network stream of Information Technology we probably face more challenges than some of the other streams simply because a) the numbers of students we have b) the fact that other than the entry level subjects it is the most taught subjects.
This is suppossed to be a discussion site where we can share ideas and thoughts openly and transparently. To start things off and in no particular order or too much thought:
- We are one TAFE. People have always thought of us as one TAFE. There is an expectation that a qualification taught at one campus is the same as a qualification taught at another
- We should have consistency of where we teach vendor skills. MS Server should be the same competencies and subjects irrespective of where they are taught
- Different locations have different cohort of clients and different needs.
- We should have a commonality of resources for competencies, teaching material and assesments
- Different lecturers / sites should be able to use different methodologies.
So where to next?.....
I hope to post as much information about what we teach at what sites across the state so we can have an informed discussion, You are encouraged to participate.and join the discussion.
